Q. Are you interested in metagenomics techniques?

Q. Do you use Nanopore sequencing technologies?

Read the recent scientific article by Joint Research Project FARMED published in BMC Genomics from the Springer Nature Group.

This study compared six DNA extraction methods for isolation of high molecular weight DNA suitable for shotgun metagenomics Nanopore sequencing to detect bacteria in a synthetic stool mix. The results showed that the Quick-DNA HMW MagBead Kit (Zymo Research) was selected as producing the best yield of pure HMW DNA. This kit allowed an accurate detection, by Nanopore sequencing, of almost all the bacterial species present in a complex mock community. Authors recommended that the flexibility of this method should be tested on a wide variety of metagenomics real samples, evaluating also the correct detection of viruses and eukaryotes, to test its performance for different case studies.
